Eighty years into the future, the United States is a no-man’s-land: its landscape blighted by chemical warfare, pollution, and plague; its government collapsed; its citizens adrift, desperate, fighting to stay alive. In fortified compounds, survivors hold the line against wandering predators, rogue militias, and hideous mutations spawned from the toxic environment, while against them all stands an enemy neither mortal nor merciful: demons and their minions bent on slaughtering and subjugating the last of humankind.
But from around the country, allies of good unite to challenge the rampaging evil. Logan Tom, wielding the magic staff of a Knight of the Word, has a promise to keep – protecting the world’s only hope of salvation – and a score to settle with the demon that massacred his family. Angel Perez, Logan’s fellow Knight, has risked her life to aid the elvish race, whose peaceful, hidden realm is marked for extermination by the forces of the Void. Kirisin Belloruus, a young elf entrusted with an ancient magic, must deliver his entire civilization from a monstrous army. And Hawk, the rootless boy who is nothing less than destiny’s instrument, must lead the last of humanity to a latter-day promised land before the final darkness falls.

Customer Rating: Summary: A Decent Ending To A Decent Trilogy Comment: I enjoyed this trilogy overall, despite the fact that it seems to be written for late teens or young adults. There are no big surprises here,a conclusion that seems to only dispense with characters who are so on the periphery of the central story their demise is more an afterthought rather than a devastating loss for the reader. You also have a bunch of kids who have had to survive on the street who all speak with nary a dirty word between them. That's not to say I'm looking for profanity, I just felt it turned the whole series a little PG. However, it's still a fun ride, and there are many who will certainly find it an enjoyable and satisfying conclusion.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great Book! Comment: My husband loves Terry Brooks, and this series, according to him, was the best yet. I've never seen him get so involved in book before. Of course I had to sit there and listen to him describing what he had read. Not my kind of book, but, it was his. He'd tell everybody to read this book if they're into Terry Brooks. So, he liked it and it kept him interested, so I guess it's good!
Customer Rating: Summary: So now we know how Shannara came to be Comment: It's a bleak future for the world. The poisonous environment's created hideous mutations and most of the people are hiding in compounds, fighting for their lives. Two knights of the Word, Logan Tom and Angel Perez, are fighting off the forces of the demons, who are bent on destroying the rest of humankind.
Terry Brooks is a master storyteller. He kept us enchanted with Shannara for many years, then moved to the Word and the Void. Now, with the third series in this multi-book universe, he's finally telling us where Shannara originated from.
While this book stands alone, I'd suggest reading Word and the Void (my favorite Brooks) and then moving to Genesis of Shannara. Well worth the time reading.

Customer Rating: Summary: Latest in the Shannara series Comment: Terry Brooks is my favorite fantasy writer. I have read all of his Shannara books. This latest series, Genesis of Shannara, is good and I enjoyed it, but I didn't like them quite as much as earlier ones. However, Gypsy Moth was a fitting and satisfying conclusion to the latest triology of books.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great Ending Comment: Well, the Genesis of Shannara series was the first Brooks I've ever read, and I must say that the man is a genius. His writing style kept me engaged at every turn; he was never overly wordy; and his world is very interesting. I recommend this series to anyone, and this book is a well deserved ending to the series.
