NOT for anyone overweight or a bit unfit 2 out of 5
I bought this dvd after reading all the reviews about how it was really great and suitable for everyone, including beginners and I think this is misleading. I think something more accurate is that it is probably fine for beginners, IF you are roughly a healthy weight and relatively fit and flexible through other means.
If, like me, you are overweight and attempting to get fit etc through exercise dvds, I don't think this is for you. I'm not badly unfit - I can do cardio workouts, I walk everywhere, can swim a fair bit, can do basic yoga moves etc - and I'm quite young, but having to support your own weight in various ways to do different stretches is awkward, painful and sometimes just not feasible when you have a fair bit of excess weight! Trying to stay controlled in these movements, when they're a struggle, is also difficult - perhaps sacrificing their effectiveness ond safety. Some of the twisting is also quite uncomfortable with excess fat getting in the way! I've ended my workout feeling a bit in pain and frustrated.
Maybe I will try it again once I have got down to a healthy weight, and see if it is good for maintaining my health. But I'm very unlikely to be able to use it to get there!
I like 5 out of 5
I'm new to pilates and enjoy doing this video. I feel like my whole body has gotten a workout after finishing the first three segments. not a dvd 1 out of 5
I am only giving it a 1 because I can't go lower. It was advertised as a DVD but they sent me a VHS. Useless.Supposed to get a refund but that didn't happen either. Very dissapointed. A great next step for beginner 5 out of 5
I am somewhat new to pilates. I love everything about this style of exercise and after mastering Elements Pilates for Weight loss (Brooke Siler) I was looking for a next step to progress further. After a lot of reviewing, I decided to try this 10 Minute Solution video. The instruction is spot-on, and her cuing is perfect for a beginner or intermediate. The pace is quicker than a normal pilates session, but she wants you to get a lot out of your 10 minutes. I usually do 3-5 parts of this at once. I really like all of the sections and the lower body section is TOUGH! I think the arm section could be more challenging, but I have other videos that do the job. The stretch section is very soothing and doesn't stress my generally inflexible body. The pilates burn set does boost my heart rate, and I start with it to jump start my calorie burn. There is no warm-up to any section, but I find I don't need one since this is all pretty low impact. I really look forward to this video and "treat" myself to it after I have completed some of my other less enjoyable workouts. a good Pilates DVD even for beginners 5 out of 5
The reason that I got this DVD was to be more flexible, but the workouts have given me much more than that. With my background as a martial artist Pilates always looked too easy and not effective enough from a distance. After trying this DVD I must say that I absolutely love it. I thought that I have a strong ab, but the 10 min PILATES FOR ABS proved me wrong. I loved the arm workouts, you just feel the burn at the end of the 10 min SCULPTING PILATES. The thigh and bun section was amazing, I felt more burn in my bun than doing Jane fonda workouts with weights. I did sweat alot with the PILATES BURN and it also helped with my felexibility. Now I can easily have my cardio days (swimming and running) and have this DVD to help me with not only my strength training but also with my flexibility. Don't be afraid if you are a beginner, there are also some modifications to the moves for you to make it easier on your joints.
