Water tank holds about 1.8 gallons. Protec cartridge is held in a little cage attached to inside of water tank cap. Fan on High can be felt 20' away. I pre-fill 2 1gal containers and carry them over to humifier to refill water tank - minimal water drippage on floor.

Summary: Humidifies nothing, but leaks all over
Comment: Bought this at the end of last winter. It worked all right the couple of times we used it, but when we have been using it this winter, it consistently empties out the tank when the tank gets close to empty, resulting in the water spilling out all over the floors. Get this product if you want an excuse to get new floors, because you could wake up and find a giant puddle of water everywhere! We put a plastic container under it to make sure that it wasn't a one time thing and it happens every time. This feature should be mentioned in the description!

Summary: better than I had hoped
Comment: I got this unit to replace an older model that had stopped. This unit so far two months in is almost perfect. It runs smooth and quiet. Filling is easy and only uses 3/4 tank at nite right now(sept. in Phx). My only issue is you have to twist on the cap hard to keep it from dripping when you carry it back to install it after filling.

Comment: We bought this last winter after our family was suffering bloody noses and sinus pain due to the dryness in our home.
We happen to like the fan noise, but we have always used a fan to help us stay asleep. I can see where it would be annoying to those not used to the white noise.
Found this to be the best value out there and even with our hard water we have used this humidifier with no ill effects. We will be changing the filter for the first time when we restart the unit this month. The Protec cartridges can be found in a big box store for a reasonable price.

Comment: Love this product. I use a 2 humidifiers year round, 24/7 due to asthma triggered by hot dry air. Many reviewers have complained about the fan noise. It is not ultrasonic so it does have a fan. However, the fan is a smooth noise with three settings, and the humidistat works 100 times better than the one on my former Bionaire humidifier. It is much quieter than the Bionaire and it works quickly. That means the fan comes on, puts out needed moisture and then turns off as soon as your desired humidity setting is reached. It doesn't turn off and on every 15 seconds like the annoying Bionaire did. Very little cleaning required with Protec and filtered H20 (no minerals) water. In short, It is much quieter and MUCH more efficient than other top brands I've used. Also less expensive. As soon as my other Bionaire goes, I will buy this one again from Amazon.
