I needed something to help me control a TV and Linksys Media Center extender in my office. We watch from two places, at my desk and on the treadmill. We have line of sight issues with the IR remotes for both devices from both positions, and I finally got frustrated enough to do something about it. I was going to break down and get another $150 (refurbished) Harmony 890 RF remote, I've got two of them and like them a lot, but it was overkill for this situation and I really didn't want to spend that much. I came across this device and thought it was worth a shot.
My installation was not without challenges. I charged the battery for a day as recommended, then put it into the remote for the Linksys Media Center extender DMA-2100 which also controls my TV. I could not get the devices to respond and the lights were blinking weird on the "ufo" receiver. I tried it with my XBox remote and it worked properly there so it seemed to be an incompatibility with my remote. I tried their website for some troubleshooting tips and they have absolutely no support online, not even contact info. Frustrated, I emailed their sales department and was told to call in. So I called their main number and the guy who answered the phone was extremely helpful. He hadn't seen that behavior before, but is going to buy one of the remotes to test with. I can't imagine the pile of remotes he must have. So they seem to be a very small company, but extremely helpful and friendly so I will forgive the lack of web content.
In the meantime, I'm not sure if I will be able to get it to work with my remote or not, but I found a Microsoft Media Center remote lying around that I was able to get to work with everything. I also found a 2 headed IR emitter lying around that works with it (it only comes with a single headed emitter). Everything works great. Saved me > $100 over buying the Harmony 890 and gets the job done nicely. Very happy with my purchase. Easy, Convenient, Works! 5 out of 5
This product far exceeded my expectations. I received the item, replaced the batteries (that were already charged) and it started working. I was a little worried about having to replace the batteries in the transmitter frequently, but then I found out that the unit comes with two batteries and the "ufo" charges the second battery while the first one is in use. This is awesome, no need to buy extra batteries and chargers or go without the remote while they're charging. Over all a very good product, I'd recommend this over any other IR transmitter. I had purchased a different product for more money and it did not work. I saw a review for this product rating it very high so I decided to purchase it. It was easy to set up and has worked perfectly from the start. I would highly recommend this product. Works with TiVo remote 4 out of 5
I'm using this with my TiVo remote to control a TiVo that I have hooked up to 2 TVs in 2 different rooms. My place is relatively small so the distance between the base unit and where I use my remote isn't very far (about 10 -12 feet and through a wall) but this works great. My only complaint is that the battery drains quickly. The upside is that they give you 2 batteries so one is always charging - just swap it out. I've been using this for about 6 months and have had no problems with it. Short lived junk 1 out of 5
After initially not working, this unit all of a sudden started working after a couple days. Then worked great for about 3 weeks although had to keep changing batteries every few days. Now it hasn't worked for months although I keep trying. What a pain walking around the corner for direct sight every time I want to use the remote. I'm throwing this in the trash and buying another product today.
