hard body plan by Mens Health 5 out of 5

I first saw this book a Barns & Noble store which was more expensive. Since I looked at it there and briefly saw what it had as far as workout plans and details on diet plans it was very good in its explaination of everything, the pictures were great and since this was a gift to a friend who is a beginner in working out and trying to lose weight. I thought this would be a excellant book for him. He depended on me to do the research and I do think this is a great book for anyone who wants a detailed book on exercise routines and diet that will get you to your goals if you stick to the plan properly and are committed to a 5 day workout at least to get the results you need.

thank you

hard body 5 out of 5

excellent book for beginners and intermediate body builders or guys who want to get fit. has plenty of good information that work and get you results. after a couple of months i have definately seen results.

looks like a good workout 5 out of 5

I haven't yet tried this workout, but I'm going to. It looks like a good one. And the book goes in to great detail about the work out, both weights and cardio as well as nutrition and other tidbits of information. It looks like it is a great workout, and I've heard great things about it.

Great Book 5 out of 5

This is a great book. I bought this book two years ago and have loaned it to several people over the years. I bought it when I was 320lbs and have used it to get under 200lbs for the first time since high school. This book is good information source for all skill levels. I now buy this book as a gift to all my out-of-shape friends. It is a wonderful place to start. All it takes is the knowledge in this book and heart.

Comprehensive, great starter and reference 3 out of 5

Keep in mind while reading this review: I did not follow the book completely, because I didn't make a decision to sacrifice more time and money to achieve the results I wanted. Thus I can't comment on whether this program delivers as promised. I also noticed many don't comment on that in their reviews. I did get SOME results (read below). Bottom line ...

pros:
For someone who has few clues on how to approach bodybuilding, I found this book to be exactly what I needed. It is very comprehensive. It covers theory on muscle building, it makes sense out of bodybuilding as a sport. It covers cardio, weight lifting, and nutrition.
For someone of close to average build, with close to average weight gaining ability of better, this books would be everything he needs to look better as a results of the workout programs described. This book and its routines and nutrition information helped me start a more active, healthier lifestyle, which to me was one of the main goals.

cons:
The specific advice doesn't seem to agree with some of the popular advice on the market. Amount of protein intake here is advised to be less than some of the more aggressive methods prescribe. This book emphasizes isolated exercises and frequent workouts compared to heavier lifting methods for mass building.
For a slimmer framed guy like me, this was not enough to have significant muscle gains. I gained no more than 5-7 pounds after following this for a year. Though my nutrition was not up to par with the advise in the book. This was probably the issue. I did get lean and increased my curves in chest, shoulders, arms, and especially back.

Conclusion: I think when it comes to having an encyclopedia of exercises for workouts, and as a reference for nutrition advice, this is an excellent source to have, given you're a guy who wants to get and stay in shape. But this is not a book for a slim guy who wants to gain weight and significantly increase his sex appeal (no joking here).

Buy this book, read it, follow it - get in the gym and get used to working out, begin eating right. You'll start seeing results no doubt. Then get another more serious book of muscle gain; and step it up. Choose a book that fits your goals and genetics for building.

p.s. my friend who is slimmer and taller than I am was actually able to gain 25 pounds in 24 weeks by following another book he owns to the letter. He looked like another (bigger, more muscular) person. So it is possible for hardgainers to achieve their goals. It just takes a more specific approach and more dedications. Don't know what book he used, but I'm going to find out.
