Great for TONING 4 out of 5
I have been doing this DVD every day for the last few months. I have to say I have seen results in my muscle tone and strength. I usually do 2 segments every day and I can feel it when I'm done. However, I think if you are looking to loose weight or get your heart rate up this won't do much for you. The fact that it comes with the needed equipment (a body band) is a plus. The band is pretty light resistance but it is long enough that it can be doubled for more resistance. After a few times doing the workouts I had no trouble transitioning with the band from one excercise to another. As for Amy Bento, I don't find her as annoying, fake, intense, or peppy as alot of instructors. Overall I would say this is a great DVD for toning but you might want to do a cardio DVD along with it. great instruction, good strength, but very low caloric burn 3 out of 5
Band: The band is included with the dvd and it's a decent resistance level...easy to increase your resistance by just pulling it more tightly or wrapping it to it's shorter. but it was perfect tension for me.
Portability: Perfect way to get strength training in while traveling!
Instructor/cueing: Excellent cueing and instruction and discussion on proper form and technique. Good energy and motivation
Interest: Using the band makes you concentrante on that rather than time or working out so it creates added interest and prohibits boredom
Caloric Burn: I wear a bodybugg to measure my daily caloric expenditure, therefore I can also measure every workout I do based on how many calories I burn per minute as well as during the entire workout. I only mention this to relay that I base this on scientific measurement rather than perceived exertion...Although I have amassed a large collection of fitness dvds over the past few years and workout 6 days a week to them (so I have a large comparison) while this offered some of the best instruction and interest, the caloric burn was VERY low. That said, strength training workouts often have lower caloric burn but do build muscle which increases your metabolism. However, many fitness dvds now offer more cardio with strength training so you get the benefit of both caloric burn during and after the workout. (circuit training) But because some may believe this packs more punch into 10 minutes than other workouts, it should be noted that it did not, calorie wise. While you shouldn't judge your own caloric burn against my own because a higher body mass will burn more calories and a lower one will burn less, I only burned, for example, 54 calories during the Butt and thigh blaster and 30 during the total body tone zone when I combined the two for a 20 minute workout...(but bear in mind I'm short at 5'4" and 120 lbs.) (And the bodybugg has the highest accuracy of caloric expenditure measurement) The other segments were about the same as the total body.
That said, fitting in ANY workout is better than no workout and I not only FELT the burn the next day so I know this worked well, I still very much enjoy this dvd...for when I travel or want lighter days of strength training. For a full workout, however, for fat loss I do combine it with either some cardio or I do the entire workout of 54 minutes.
the great thing about using a band is you can work muscles you wont hit in other dvds...very nice.
I actually burn more calories doing 10 minutes of my Biggest Loser dvds as well as several others I have that are not labled as "ten minute solutions" but don't let this stop you from trying this one out. Switching up your strength training from weights to a band is alone worth the price...it prohibits "muscle memory" of doing the same thing and your body adjusting to it and it adds a whole lot of interest and something unique.
And, quite frankly, you WILL feel it afterwards which means there is muscle building and THAT increases your metabolism to continue burning calories.
Conclusion: Just know, if you are guaging your workouts or what you eat by caloric expenditure, your caloric deficit isn't going to be much larger on days you utilize this one...but you will have, most assuredly, still done some good and you'll feel it! And if you only have 10 mintues to get in a workout, just do it! :-) It's still well worth the cost. 10 Minute Solution: Tone Trouble Zones 5 out of 5
I really like this tape. The instructor is really good and very easy to follow! I have been using this tape for about three weeks. Great for us Oldies 5 out of 5
I am 64 years old and not in the best or worst shape. I needed something to help me get started with stretching and then toning. This was perfect. 10 minutes was just enough in the beginning and now I frequently do 20-30 minutes depending on my schedule. I love the band. It allowed me to do the stretching and then the more difficult exercises without putting too much strain on my joints and muscles. It has reenergized me. Good Toning, Despite Some Flaws 4 out of 5
This was my first time using a band, and it's my new favorite type of resistance because it's very easy to customize. The exercises Amy leads you through are effective. The arm and leg sections are especially well-developed. The 10 Minute Stretch isn't particularly interesting, but it feels good. Amy Bento does sound a bit "fake" but at least she's peppy, not boring. The main problem is the speed. You should definitely preview this, but while you're watching, get into position with the band to figure out where it is most comfortable for you, so you don't have to scramble to rearrange yourself later.
