Average Customer Rating: 3.5 / 5.0 Total Number of Reviews: 17 Editorial Review: The Brother DR360 drum unit works with the TN330 and TN360 toner cartridges (sold separately) to provide clean, sharp prints on your compatible Brother laser printers and multifunction units. You can expect an impressive life span of about 12,000 pages (based on 5% coverage) from this dedicated drum unit. It snaps easily into place with minimal fuss and is compatible with a wide variety of Brother models, including laser printer models HL-2140 and HL-2170w. The package includes one drum unit.
Worthless Chinese made- did not work 1 out of 5
I have one of the highest end Brother Multi-Use Printers and this part for my lowest end Brother printer is Chinese made and
when I installed it and went to print, it was just off enough in its construction that only partial pages printed. When I looked
at the other choices for this piece, the RIGHT ONE FROM BROTHER ITSELF cost only $15 less than just replacing the whole printer, so
I just threw away the money on this part and feel totally ripped off. Don't get ripped off 3 out of 5
If you're considering buying this drum unit for a Brother HL-2170W or HL-2140 then I encourage you to read this review since it could wind up saving you some money.
First, let me say that I don't mind a company making a reasonable profit; that is, after all, how they stay in business and provided products and services we benefit from. I do object, though, when a company prices an item artificially high relative to the actual cost to produce that item. Case in point: this drum unit.
Let me also explain how I came to care and post this review. The drum unit and toner cartridge are integrated in such a way that they appear to be a single piece of hardware and when the toner cartridge on my HL-2170W became depleted I made the mistake of discarding both the cartridge AND the DR360 drum unit -- and didn't realize my mistake until it was too late. Oops.
Granted, that mistake was my own fault but what was even more frustrating was finding out that a new drum unit (the one shown here) sells for almost as much money as I paid for the entire printer. Does anyone seriously think that this piece of (mostly) plastic costs Brother anywhere near the cost you see here? I, for one, do not. You CAN pick up a third-party drum unit replacement for far less money but personally I prefer to avoid "iffy" things like that.
I didn't post all this just to rant, though. You should know that the Brother HL-2140 is VERY similar to the HL-2170W. In fact, it appears that the main (perhaps only) difference is that the HL-2170W supports wireless connections. More importantly, though, is that they both use the DR360 drum unit and as of this writing one of the major office supply store chains (question: what comes out of a STAPLER when you use it?) is selling the HL-2140 for less than the cost shown here for a DR360 drum unit -- and that printer INCLUDES a drum unit (and toner cartridge).
So you can choose one of the following:
A) Just the drum unit for the price shown here.
B) The same drum unit, a brand new toner cartridge, and a printer that uses these items for LESS money.
It's your choice but personally I recommend "B".
The caveat, of course, is that the current price of the HL-2140 is a sale price and won't last, but even at its regular price you're better off purchasing a new HL-2140 printer than you are buying a drum unit and toner cartridge separately -- and you WILL eventually need another toner cartridge anyway if you keep the printer.
So my advice is this: learn from my mistake and experience and avoid this overpriced piece of plastic. Replacement drum 5 out of 5
This item was very easy to replace. I ran the original down to the last bit that I could use it.
Since this was an OEM part, I am not worried that it may stop working short of its life or cause problems with the printer. I also order the toner cartridges from Amazon. The prices cannot be beat for OEM parts for my printer. Even refilled/refurbished parts at 3rd party outlets are
more expensive than the items from Amazon. Brother Toner drum 4 out of 5
Use official brother products. I used a "compatible" product and it totally messed up my printing for a while. Brother Drum units & toner packages 5 out of 5
I been using Brother Laser Printers for yrs now and they always do the job I am looking forward to getting a laser printer that will do color as well as b&w. I just purchased the 7340 mFc does scans, copy, fax, plus to uses same drum and toner as my 2140 so I am saving money as well. If buyer will order the high capacity they will sav money in the long run and also I suggest buying them together drum unit and toner this will also save money. Another idea is to have serveral printers setup on network and rotate use of each that also will prolong use of drum units and toners. We use 2 now and may go to 3 or 4
